摘要

Physicians and surgeons can identify injury hazards however they lack the tools211u001eto collect a good trauma history. The broad long-term objective of this research 211u001ewas to enhance injury surveillance by improving the predictive ability of data 211u001ecollected in the trauma history. The goal of this study was to create tools for 211u001eobtaining a complete and accurate history for child pedestrians and bicyclists. 211u001eThe following design criteria were used: (1) Collection of accurate and thorough 211u001einformation; (2) Collection of information predictive of injury severity and 211u001esufficiently detailed to allow approximate determination of injury mechanisms; 211u001e(3) Limited time burden to the respondent; and (4) Adaptable for different 211u001erespondent groups. The tools the Injury Circumstance Evaluation (ICE) survey, 211u001ewere evaluated based on the adminstration of the survey to a cohort of over 800 211u001echildren injured as bicyclists or pedestrians and treated at The Children's 211u001eHospital of Philadelphia.
