Triaxial static and cyclic strength testing was combined with cone penetrometer211u001etesting of calcareous sands in a specially designed calibration chamber, and then 211u001ecompared with results obtained for silica sands of similar gradation. The results 211u001eindicate that penetration resistance over a range of parallel relative densities 211u001eis significantly less in the calcareous sand than that observed in the silica 211u001esand. Cyclic strengths and friction angles obtained from static strength tests of 211u001ethe calcareous sand were greater than those of the silica sand. Aging typically 211u001eincreased the cyclic strengths and penetration resistance of the calcareous sand. 211u001eStatic strengths, however, appeared relatively unaffected.
