Ecological and Economic Consequences of Hypoxia. Topic 2 Report for the211 Integrated Assessment on Hypoxia in the Gulf of Mexico

In this report, the authors have attempted to evaluate the ecological and211u001eeconomic consequences of hypoxia in the northern Gulf of Mexico. For the economic 211u001eanalysis, the authors developed a conceptual model of how hypoxia-related impacts 211u001ecould affect fisheries. The authors' model included both supply and demand 211u001ecomponents. The supply model had two components: (1) a physical production 211u001efunction for fish or shrimp, and (2) the cost of fishing. The demand model 211u001econsidered how hypoxia might affect the quality of landed fish or shrimp. In 211u001eparticular, the market value per pound is lower for small shrimp than for large 211u001eshrimp.
