This Letter Health Consultation (LHC) has been completed by the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), for the former lead smelter site known as Caswell, Strauss and Co. The site is located in Edison Township, Middlesex County, New Jersey. NJDOH was requested by the EPA to evaluate their February 2012 soil sampling results and determine the following: Do the lead levels present in the surface soils at the residential properties pose a health hazard to the residents, especially young children. Do the lead levels present in the surface soils at the commercial property pose a health hazard to workers or to adjacent residents.
