This Concordance is a guide for relating the United States Patent Classification(USPC) System to the Seventh Edition of the International Patent Classification (IPC). The seventh edition of the International Patent Classification is published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Geneva, Switzerland. The United States Patent Classification To International Patent Classification Concordance is intended only as a guide or tool providing information which allows the use to quickly access the correct area of the IPC manuals. Because of differences in the philosophies of the two systems, a complete one-to-one relationship has not been attained. The correspondence indicated between the codes of the two systems should be used as a starting point for determining the final classification of US documents into the IPC System. Although the text often seems to infer that the codes are equivalents, differences in placement rules and the interpretation of the scope of the subject matter claimed between the two systems makes such a one-to-one translation rarely attainable.
