New teachers for a New Century: The future of Early Childhood ProfessionalPreparation was designed to fulfill three purposes: (1) to examine the nature and content of current early childhood professional preparation programs at the pre-service level, (2) to provide a comprehensive description of what constitutes high quality early childhood professional preparation, and most important, (3) to drive professional discussion concerning the future of professional preparation at the baccalaureate level in early childhood education. The US Department of Education commissioned a set of 5 papers to examine the professional preparation of bachelor's level early childhood educators. The papers cover the following topics: state-of-the-art overview of the preparation of early childhood educators, review of how early childhood educators learn to work with families, review of how early childhood of bachelor's level early childhood educators.
