Geographic Information System (GIS) Needs Assessment for TXDOT Pavement Management Information Systems (Revised).

This report documents an assessment of needs for TxDOT divisions, districts, and area offices with respect to integrating geographic information systems (GIS) technologies with the department's existing Pavement Management Information System (PMIS). The report also describes the adequacy of existing TxDOT base maps and point out the potential shortcomings of those maps. The report documents problems associated with using a global positioning system (GPS) with real-time, satellite-broadcast differential correction for TxDOT. The report provides information on the use and availability of raster images for enhancing the interpretation of pavement management data. Recommendations are provided regarding TxDOT's requirements for GIS implementation with PMIS at four department levels.
