摘要

Title VII, section 747 has been instrumental in creating a supply of diverse, broadly competent primary care physicians, physician assistants, and dentists. From its beginnings, Title VII, section 747 has helped develop and expand training programs for these primary care health professions. Further, primary care medical and dental programs supported by Title VII, section 747 have outperformed the average of all U.S. training programs for these health professions programs: In 1998, 42-56 percent of graduates of these programs entered practice in underserved communities, compared to a mean of 10 percent of U.S. health professions graduates overall. In 1998, underrepresented minority or disadvantaged groups comprised 35-50 percent of graduates of programs supported by Title VII, section 747, compared to a 10 percent minority representation among the U.S. health professions workforce overall.
