Areas of current activity semiconductor materials, structures and processing, surface sciences, nanomaterials and confined quantum structures, magnetism, statistical physics and complex systems, and biophysics. The laboratory is host to COMP, the research unit in computational condensed matter and complex materials. COMP has been designated a National Center of Excellence in Research by the Academy of Finland for the years 2000-2005.
