This manual is intended to serve as a training and reference document for persons who perform impulse oscillometry (IOS) for the Childhood Asthma Research and Education (CARE) Network as well as for those involved in other aspects of trials conducted by this Network. It is written to be useful for people who have never performed pulmonary function testing before as well as those who are experienced in performing these tests, but are not familiar with the IOS procedure used in the CARE trials. Proficiency in performing IOS for CARE, however, is best acquired by practice and experience. You are encouraged to practice obtaining IOS measurements on yourself, your friends and your co-workers.
