The purpose of the report is to explore racial differences in communication between African American and Caucasian patients (matched for sex and highest educational attainment) and orthopaedic surgeons. Evidence of health disparities or inequalities arising from race and ethnicity exist for all medical conditions, including those requiring orthepaedic surgery. The aetiology of these disparities is complex, multi-factorial and not well understood.
