Hazardous Substances Emergency Events Surveillance (HSEES) 2007-2008 Biennial Report.

The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) maintained the Hazardous Substances Emergency Events Surveillance (HSEES) system from 1990-2009. HSEES called on state health departments to collect information on the public health consequences of acute hazardous substance incidents. Collected data facilitate national, state, and local preparedness for prevention of, and response to, hazardous substance threats. This report summarizes the 15,506 events reported during the years 2007 and 2008 and the major activities performed by the state programs.
