The Symposium on Ferroelectricity and Piezoelectricity: Materials, Devices, and Applications was one of many materials research symposia which composed the XVIII International Materials Research Congress (IMRC) held from 16-21 August 2009 in Cancun, Mexico at the Casa Magna Marriott Resort. The IMRC is organized annually and provides an interactive forum for discussing the advances and trends in materials science and engineering. The symposia were focused on a variety of research areas under the umbrella of materials science. Such focus areas included: nanotechnology, material design, materials modeling and simulation, magnetic materials, materials characterization, structural materials properties and phase transformations, synthesis and characterization of polymers, surface engineering of thin films, magnetic shape memory alloys, advanced novel materials, corrosion, advances in electron microscopy, material synthesis, characterization and surface science, materials properties and process science, basic research trends, and education in the area of material science.
