摘要

This report presents data from the 2006 National Survey of Ambulatory Surgery (NSAS). The survey, previously conducted annually from 1994 through 1996, was conducted by NCHS to gather and disseminate data about ambulatory surgery in the United States. For NSAS, ambulatory surgery refers to surgical and nonsurgical procedures performed on an ambulatory (outpatient) basis in a hospital or freestanding centers general operating rooms, dedicated ambulatory surgery rooms, and other specialized rooms, such as endoscopy units and cardiac catheterization laboratories. NSAS is the principal source for national data on the characteristics of visits to hospital-based and freestanding ambulatory surgery centers.
