Techniques for sealing crystal unit holders free from moisture have been investigated. Correlation has been obtained between experimental and theoretical data relating change in crystal resistance to the amount of moisture sealed in the crystal holder. The relationship between resistance change and frequency variation has been obtained for cyrstals in different frequency ranges. From these data, the maximum amount of allowable moisture has been determined. The effect of variations in crystal heating rate during the dewpoint test is analyzed. Several crystal unit sealing methods are evaluated, Modifications of the crystal testing procedure are recommended.
