Studio dell-Ecologia dei Piccoli Corsi d'Acqua della Provincia di Roma. (Ecological Study of the Streams of the Province of Rome).

The urbanization process linked to the development of Rome, has changed the land use of the Central Latium: these changes are the causes of a large number of impact factors related to the small water courses. The objective of this study was to characterize ecologically the small rivers of the Rome Province, using biological (benthic invertebrates), chemical and microbiological parameters and riverine functionality, in order to assess their ecological status of, as required by Water Frame Directive 2000/60/EC and Italian Legislative Decree 152/2006. The results indicated that most of water bodies studied were in compromised environmental conditions, and showed the need of actions aimed at restoring these ecosystems, that are considered as refuge areas and reservoir for the major rivers wildlife.
