Evaluation of Welded Joints Between AISI 347 Stainless Steel and 70-30 Copper-Nickel Alloy Tubes Under Thermal Shock Specimen No. 3

This is the third phase of the investigation given in Engineering Experiment Station Reports 060064 and 060088A. This report presents the results of thermal shocking a third mock-up, containing welded bimetallic joints uniting tube components as installed in emergency heat exchangers in newly developed submarine propulsion plants.nIn this phase of the investigation the specimen installation was modified to permit inspection of the bore at specified intervals. The objective of this inspection was to determine the number of thermal shock applications which initiated crack development in the various portions of the assembly.
