Solubility data are presented which show that barium titanate has a very low solubility in aqueous neutral and alkaline media, even at elevated temperatures and pressures. In acidic media, barium titanate is chemically unstable.nBarium titanate is formed hydrothermally by the action of barium hydroxide on titania in alkaline media at temperatures above room temperature. The crystals formed are, however, very small—of the order of 15 microns.nBecause of the low solubility of barium titanate, the growth of macrocrystals poses an extremely difficult problem. Extraordinary techniques may be required and a number of such approaches are considered in this report. Unfortunately, none were successful.
