This paper extends optimum design procedures to sampled data systems with a miltirate controller used as a discrete compensator. The miltirate controller is a discrete network which in response to input samples at time t=O, T, 2T, . . . produces output samples at time t=O, T/n, 2T/n,. . . (where n is an integer), any output sample being a linear combination of the past and present inputs and outputs.nIt is shown in this paper how to design this controller to achieve a least mean square continuous error with random input functions. The advantages of the miltirate controller over the single-rate compensator are demonstrated.
