Determination of the Reactivity of the Active Chemical Constituents in Cutting Fluids with Various Metals and Alloys

The relative ease of machining various metals and alloys is considered to be influenced not only by the usual metallurgical factors but also, where cut¬ting fluids are used, by the chemical and physical reactions which occur at the cutting zone. For example, certain nickel-base alloys are said to be most effec¬tively machined when a chlorine-base cutting oil is used.
