STORAGE OF BRAKE WHEEL CYLINDERS WITH MINERAL OIL

The object of this study was to evaluate the storage properties of mineral oils with hydraulic brake system components. Synthetic rubber brake cups compatible with mineral oils and having improved operational characteristics were used in the study.nBrake cylinder was packaged with two types of mineral oil and placed in warehouse storage and simulated vehicle storage. Cylinders were inspected at one year intervals.nAll aluminum, tin, steel, and brass part were in excellent condition after 3 years storage. Cast iron cylinder walls were excessively pitted. Synthetic rubber brake cups were in satisfactory condition. Natural rubber boots were cracked and deteriorated.
