ZINC AND IRON ANALYSIS OF ZINC PHOSPHATE COATINGS USING THE EMISSION SPECTROGRAPH

An emission spectrographic procedure utilizing the rot rode technique was developed for the determination of zinc and iron in phosphate coatings. Suitable synthetic standards were prepared to cover the expected concentration ranges and working curves were constructed. A procedure for stripping zinc phosphate coatings from steel panels was developed which allowed spectrographic analysis of the resulting liquid samples. Repeatability of analysis was entirely satisfactory and conformed to the normal error experienced in spectrographic analysis.
