A Study of the Liquid-Liquid Extraction and Separation of Salts

Work has continued on the transition metal perchlorate-water-n-butanol systems. To complete the characterization of the systems a study has been made of the thermodynamic properties of aquocomplexes of copper (II) perchlorate in butanol. Interest in the copper salt has been enhanced by its slightly anomalous behavior relative to the corresponding salts of cobalt and nickel, notably with respect to its enthalpy of transfer, apparent hydration number in butanol phases, and effect upon the viscosity of the butanol phases. The differences between copper perchlorate and the others is greater than would have been expected on the basis of its slightly smaller crystal radius.
