A machine was designed and built to pick up oranges from a windrow in a harvest system consisting of a tree shaker, windrowing rake, and pick-up machine. The average pick-up rate was approximately 400 lbs./min. An inclined rough-top belt removed the majority of the trash in average conditions. A holding bin with a capacity of 6000 lbs. could be unloaded in approximately 1 minute. Fruit decay averaged 3.7% at 3 days and was within limits acceptable by the processing plant. With hydrostatic 4-wheel drive, its 4-wheel steering and long wheelbase were effective in all conditions encountered.
