The thesis is concerned with the design and implementation of computer operating systems. More specifically,it deals with the problem of synchronizing many activities within the computer system for the purposes of resource allocation,communication,and data transfer. It also describes a method of simulating an operating system such that the simulation program can be used as a basis for the operating system implementation. Finally,it presents a methodology for constructing operating systems based on the new ideas for synchronization and simulation. (Author)
