The Directive cancels DoD Directives 1200.4, September 24, 1963, 1205.6, November 9, 1968, and 1340.7, March 29, 1967. It establishes Department of Defense policy and guidance to the Military Departments for assignment of military personnel to and transfer between reserve categories and discharge from reserve status; transfer of reserve officer and enlisted personnel to the Retired Reserve of the Reserve Forces, and notification of members of the respective Reserve Components by the Military Departments when the member has completed the years of service required for eligibility for retired pay.
