Determination of Rare Earth Elements in Igneous Rocks by Neutron Activation Analysis with Group Separation

In this report full details are given for the determination of all the stable rare earths in a procedure involving thermal neutron activation group separation, gamma - ray spectrometry with Ge(Li) detectors, data handling by computer, and determination of chemical yield by reactivation. The accuracy of the method is demonstrated with results obtained for a USGS standard rock. The way in which results may be interpreted is demonstrated with data obtained for a pantellerite, a comendite, and a quartz - soda trachyte.
