This report constitutes a status report on the application of flue gas desulfurization (FGD) technology on coal-fired boilers in the industrial sector,excluding electric utilities. The study addresses four questions: (1) To what extent is FGD being applied on industrial boilers; (2) Does FGD technology operate effectively on relatively small-scale industrial applications; (3) What are the costs of FGD on industrial facilities;and (4) What motivations tend to lead industry to use FGD.
