Large-City Decline and Innovation Diffusion in the Urban System of the United States

摘要

The paper traces concepts of regional development from the heartland-hinterland model to the hiearchical diffusion model and then discusses the relative decline of the heartland. The recent economic development of the South is then discussed in a framework consisting of spatial innovation diffusion, business organization, quality of life factors, and economic-demographic decentralizations.
