A comprehensive study of the impacts of the Big Sky resort attempts to determine the degree of environmental compatibility of the development and to establish guidelines for the planning of similar future developments. This document describes the process through which development has occurred,summarizes the major research conclusions and policy implications resulting from the study of the particular impacts of Big Sky,and suggests possible solutions to the aggregate or systemwide problems of large-scale development. The research team focuses its research on problem-oriented public policy issues and develops this synthesis document for the purpose of communicating its public policy-related findings. The goal is to facilitate the political process and the public policy decision-making process. A selected listing of the documents resulting from this project is contained in Appendix A.
