Adriamycin Cardiotoxicity: A Comparison with Adriamycin, AD-32, N-Trifluoroacetyladriamycin-14-Valerate (NSC No. 246131)

Andriamycin analog NSC No. 246131 was less cardiotoxic than its parent compound. This conclusion is based on histologic, hematologic, clinical chemistry, serum enzyme and electrocardiographic studies. The analog failed to produce renal toxicity; occassional mild myeloid suppression or myocardial toxicity was seen. Animals receiving NSC No. 246131 had lengthened survival time with less weight loss than animals treated with andriamycin. Spleens of analog treated rabbits had evidence of considerable extramedullary hematopoiesis, but clinical anemia was not present.
