Some Problems in Measuring Food Assistance Program Impacts on State and Local Economies

The estimated impact of food assistance programs on any particular economy cannot be applied precisely to another. National impacts are not identical to those at either State or local levels. National-level economic models, even when adjusted, are not as suitable for accurately measuring State or local impacts as survey-based models tailored to local or State economies. Even local models require adjustment to yield accurate multipliers (units of measurement of impacts of dollar infusions into an economy). Adjustments for local models needed to yield accurate impact measurements are provided.
