Technical Assistance Report No. TA-80-42 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Elizabethtown, Kentucky

Worker exposures to ethylene-oxide (75218) (EtO) and isopropyl-alcohol (67630) (IpA) were determined at the Hardin Memorial Hospital (SIC-8060) in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, on February 28 and 29, 1980. The evaluation was requested by a representative of the Bureau of Epidemiology, Center for Disease Control, on behalf of the approximately two affected workers. Area and general air samples were collected in the central supply room where the EtO sterilization unit was located. Trace concentrations of EtO and IpA were found only in two samples. The OSHA standards for IpA and EtO are 400 and 50 parts per million, respectively, for an 8 hour time weighted average. The authors conclude that no health hazard due to EtO and IpA exists at this hospital.
