Youth Knowledge Development Report, Youth Work Experience. Enhanced Work Projects: The Supported Work Approach for Youth

This volume reports on the impacts of the National Supported Work Demonstration on the target sample of young school dropouts. Although the availability of a Supported Work job had a positive short-run impact on the employment of this group, and, consequently, on their independence from public assistance, the program did not appear to have met its central objective of mitigating the long-run employment problems of the disadvantaged youth. There was also little evidence that Supported Work had either short or long-term impacts on youths' drug use or criminal behavior.
