This document is one part of a three-part report profiling the medical technology industry using an industrial organization (I.O.) economics approach and secondary data sources. In Volume II, the I.O. approach is applied in a case study of the effects of Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement and the 1976 Medical Device Amendments on the pacemaker industry. The limitations of using existing secondary data sources for such analyses are discussed in detail.
