Study of Effective Mechanical Descaling System for Hot Coil, and Technology of Practical Use (Hot Coil no Kokatekina Mechanical Datsu Scale Hoshiki no Kenkyu to Jitsuyoka Gijutsu)

Nippon Steel Corporation has been endeavoring to develop the NID method (NSC-IHI Descaling Method) which injects black sand slurry with high pressure water, as the effective mechanical descaling means without using acid and to be used in lieu of the pickling. The study was started as a joint development work with Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Ltd., and the basic characteristics were checked by a pilot plant and followed by the practical use study with the actual test facility installed in the No. 1 pickling line of Yawata Works. So far, the evaluations of descaling characteristics, products property, facility characteristics were almost completed, and they offered good prospects for practical use.
