Photochemotherapy for Psoriasis Follow-Up Study

Photochemotherapy (PUVA) consists of the oral administration of psoralen (P), a photosensitizing chemical, followed by exposure to high-intensity long-wave ultraviolet light (UVA). Approximately 1,400 psoriasis patients treated with PUVA have been monitored for five years. Four or more years after initial treatment, 97% of patients completed interviews; and 94%, physical examinations. Results indicate that PUVA is an effective treatment for severe psoriasis.
