Caron Site (1BA376): Archaeological Excavation of a Fort Walton Site in Baldwin County, Alabama

A program of intensive testing and data recovery at the Caron Site was conducted. The work was carried out under contract for Interagency Archaeological Services Division. The investigations included the placement of systematic test pits in two area of the site, the shore and interior sector, in order to determine site extent and to delineate the loci of shell concentrations. The shore sector proved to have the most substantial midden deposits, therefore, expanded excavations were conducted in that area. Excavations yielded artifacts dating to the late Weeden Island and Fort Walton periods.
