The project's primary aim was to evaluate the Research Grant Application System (RGAS) in terms of meeting NIMH's current information needs. This involved five objectives: (1) to determine the information needs of NIMH; (2) to examine the benefits and criticisms of RGAS; (3) to list specific modifications and improvements to the RGAS taxonomy; (4) to evaluate the usefulness of its interfaces with other PHS computer systems; and, (5) to provide recommendations for the improvement of the system. To do this, interviews were conducted with NIMH staff and the staff of selected PHS systems.
