Relative Importance of Physician-Induced Demand in the Demand for Medical Care

摘要

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the validity of studies regarding demand inducement and discuss some of the major problems in this literature. Findings from a series of newer studies on demand inducement using data from the National Medical Care Expenditure Survey of the National Center for Health Services Research are also reviewed. The focus here is on the overall pattern of effects observed from this series of studies and particularly on the policy implications of these findings.
