Federal Government Provision of Public Information: Issues Related to Public Access, Technology, and Laws/Regulations

The report categorizes the significant types of public information, identifies current and potential users and providers of Government information (both public and private), and describes current and prospective means for disseminating such information (electronic and nonelectronic). It reviews and synthesizes prior studies on the effects of information technology on Government provision of information. The report also summarizes and analyzes the legislative history and current status of relevant public laws and regulations and determines whether there are any conflicts and/or gaps. The report identifies and analyzes the principal policy issues involved in the Government provision of public information.
