Siting Puzzle: Piecing Together Economic Development and Environmental Quality

These proceedings contain the papers of the presentors at the ENR 13th Annual Conference held September 13 and 14 in Chicago, Illinois. The conference, entitled THE SITING PUZZLE: Piecing Together Economic Development and Environmental Quality had the issues that ultimately determine the 'best' location for major facilities (i.e., hazardous waste, energy or major industrial facilities) within the state and the nation were the topic of the conference. Issues discussed included citizen participation and negotiation, technical siting factors such as geology, groundwater, climate and cultural resources, and economic development strategies. The focus of the conference was the need to maintain economic development while simultaneously protecting environmental quality.
