Listing of Building Product Certification Agencies in the United Staes

This directory lists the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of 56 organizations and agencies which certify building products and materials ranging from air conditioning and electric appliances to wall panels and windows. An alphabetical list of products shows, for each product, the agencies which certify the product. The alphabetical listing of agencies lists, for each agency, the categories of products which that agency certifies. An introduction notes that the certification process for similar materials can differ based on the testing standards, and the standards themselves can differ between engineering organizations. Product certifications resemble zoning laws in they seek to maintain the value of their protected properties. Unlike zoning laws, which are subject to public evaluation, certification is largely a private practice carried on by trade organizations attempting to preserve a market against competing materials.
