摘要

The report gives results of 15 emission measurements made on a laboratory scale facility simulating typical plant slag quenching practice. The measurements were made to determine if a potential alternative to treatment prior to discharge of blast furnace blowdown water (using it, untreated, to quench blast furnace slag) will significantly increase emissions to the atmosphere. Test parameters included two slag temperatures (593 C and 816 C) and two waters, relatively clean mill service water (total dissolved solids, TDS, = 450 mg/l) and blast furnace blowdown water (TDS = 2500 mg/l). Particulate emissions increased with increasing TDS in the quench water. For the same water, emissions were higher at the higher slag temperature; this trend was more pronounced with the dirtier water. Some organic species were found in the emissions, but there was little correlation with water quality or slag temperature.
