U.S. Seed Exports for the 1984-1985 Marketing Year Through December and Comparisons with the Previous Year

Exports of U.S. seeds for planting totaled $158.6 million during July-December 1984, only $300,000 above July-December 1983. Forage seeds shipments were up substantially over the previous year, with a 20% increase to $35.3 million. Vegetable seed exports were down slightly, some 4%, to $66.8 million for the first half of the 1984-85 marketing year. Flower seed sales were up to one third, to $5.4 million. Corn seed exports decreased 45% to $15.4 million from last year's $28 million for the period ending December 31. Grain sorghum seed sales showed a moderate 8% increase, to $12.1 million.
