Irrigation Scheduling Procedures with Limited Water for Improved Water Use Efficiency for Corn and Soybeans: 1982 -1984 Studies

A 3-year irrigation scheduling study using computer control, computer simulation, field and growth chamber studies was conducted. Microprocessor hardware and software aided both field irrigation scheduling and growth chamber studies of corn and soybeans using simulated weather sequences to mimic field conditions. From simulation studies using physiological plant growth models, it was concluded that crop performance levels in the fields may be only at 30 to 40 percent of their physiological potential using current production systems.
