摘要

The report present baseline descriptive information on eleven villages located in the Kodiak/Shumagin region of the North Pacific. In 1985 approximately 1700 people lived in these coastal communities -- 500 on the Pacific Ocean (Ivanof Bay, Perryville, Chignik Lake, Chignik Lagoon, and Chignik Bay) and 1200 on or near Kodiak Island (Karluk, Larsen Bay, Akhiok, Old Harbor, Quzinkie, and Port Lions.) The villages range in size from 51 resident at Ivanof Bay to 337 at Old Harbor. Research assistants provided census counts, kinship, and other demographic data for 450 households. The information was analyzed to gain an understanding of contemporary conditions, variations, and directs of change in the eleven villages.
