The Medicare data book was produced from the data base created for the National Hospital Rate-Setting Study. The data book is a comprehensive data summary of the financial and operating performance of Medicare hospital providers for the period 1970-1981. The data book consists of a volume of descriptive data, basically a series of tables, and a parallel volume which presents, among other things, the actual number of hospitals reporting and the standard deviations for each cell in each table of the first volume.
