Data Transport in Wang's Partition Method

The partition method of Wang for tridiagonal equations is analyzed with respect to the amount of data transport between the processors of a parallel computer. The authors propose a modification which effectively leads to a considerable decrease in data transport. The authors will also discuss the effects of the modification to a generalized version for banded systems, and, as a special case, the parallel solution of a bidiagonal system is considered.
