Developed for the Village Inreach Program of Catholic Relief Services' Handicapped Project in Jerusalem, the manual presents instructions and illustrations to help village teachers enable handicapped students successfully to attend mainstream preschools. Guidelines are presented to help teachers prepare themselves and their classroom for the student's arrival; develop an appropriate curriculum, understand a child's thinking processes, work with parents, and chart the child's progress; and present the child's accomplishments. Each section includes a list of activities and questions designed to help the teacher facilitate a child's integration and encourage progress. Teacher-child communication is stressed, and learning aids and adaptive equipment are discussed. A final section provides instructions for making simple classroom materials.
